THE Classic Volkswagen Show in the UK
This year’s event will mark the 42nd anniversary of the Classic Volkswagen meeting universally known as simply “Stanford Hall”. You don’t clock up that number of shows unless you are doing something right, and since the first show way back in 1976 the emphasis has always been on putting on a great display of classic unmodified Volkswagens of all types, whether air-cooled or water-cooled. And not only that, we have always aimed to give great value for money, whether it’s in the entry prices or the fees for the trade stands.
This is not a show organised by faceless corporate entities with the sole aim of profit – it is probably the only Volkswagen show in the UK that is still organised by the members of a Volkswagen Owners’ Club. It’s the Leicestershire and Warwickshire VWOC who are the driving force behind the show, and have been for most of its life. The show is funded by the Club, and of course it does usually make a profit, but this is not the be all and end all. We want to put on a good day out for all our visitors and any money we make helps with the Club funds or is donated to charities such as the Air Ambulance.
In case you’ve never been to Stanford Hall, maybe a few words about the format of the show might be appropriate. It’s a one-day show, but overnight camping is available although its not organised by us. The show itself is all about classic Volkswagens, and includes a twenty class Concours d’Elegance, around 150 VW-oriented Trade Stands, displays by a huge variety of regional and marque-based VW Clubs, a dramatic convoy arrival of anything up to 200 Split Screen Type 2’s of all kinds, as well as a Cars for Sale area and of course excellent catering and toilet facilities. And all this takes place around the lake in the grounds of a 17th Century Country House in rural Leicestershire, centrally placed and very handy for the M1, M6 and A14.
